Nov.15, 2008- The Golden Lions finally showed signs of the team that's been missing all season with a 34-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. Offensively the high powered weapons have been there all season but tonight they were on display. Martell Mallet was one man wrecking crew racking up 219 yards of total offense (160 rushing, 59 recieving). The Golden Lions produced 365 yards of total offense while Miss. Valley was only able to muster 179 yards.
Defensively, The Golden Lions were led by senior linebacker Tim Turner who tallied 12 stops. Junior defnsive end Jared Dorn bullied the Delta Devils for 4 sacks and a forced fumble. Senior safety Kevin Thorton took his season total of interceptions up another notch to seven, as he is tops in SWAC at this point.
The Golden Lions are off next weekend but are preparing for a Thanksgiving showdown with division foe Texas Southern in the first annual Lonestar Classic in Dallas, Texas, Nov.29 at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. For ticket information contact the UAPB ticket office @ (870) 575-8601
