PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams are the latest beneficiaries of Golden Lion Athletic Director Skip Perkins’ promise to have all UAPB athletic teams participate on campus.
The four tennis courts on the UAPB campus were recently refurbished at a cost of approximately $60,000, according to Perkins. Both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams will compete on the new courts for the 2009 season.
In addition to the school’s tennis team’s usage, Perkins said Physical Education classes and UAPB faculty, staff and students will have access to the courts during the year as well.
“This is just another step towards getting all of our athletic teams participating here on campus,” Perkins said. “Coach (Robert) Cain is doing an outstanding job and this will help him and his squad so many ways.”
Perkins also explained that the new courts would be used as overflow courts during the upcoming JRMC Open Tennis Tournament which will held April 11-13.
