Game Box Score

DALLAS, Texas- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff football team was unable to conclude their 2009 campaign in the manner they had anticipated going into Saturday’s SWAC West game versus the Texas Southern Tigers.
The Golden Lions fell to the Tigers 14-10 as TSU dominated the tempo of the game from start to finish. The Tigers racked up 438 total offensive yards highlighted by 182 rushing and 256 yards via the passing game.
The Golden Lions were never able to get into sync offensively as they had significant struggles on third down converting just 1-of-10 attempts. UAPB was only able to find the end zone once as senior tight-end Remo Gay hauled in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Josh Boudreaux early in the second half.
After a Freddie Fairchild interception in the third quarter it looked as if the Golden Lions might begin to hit full stride offensively as they took over possession of the ball at the Texas Southern seven yard line. Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s offense sputtered in red zone and the Golden Lions eventually had to settle for a Carlos Reyes 23 yard field goal.
Texas Southern subsequently marched down the field on their ensuing possession to take back the lead for good on a Arvell Nelson one yard TD run at the 3:44 mark of the third quarter.
For the game offensively Arkansas-Pine Bluff was only able to tally 217 total yards (8 R, 209 P). Texas Southern held the Golden Lions to their lowest rushing output of the season and also held UAPB’s Mickey Dean in check for the majority of the contest limiting him to just 1.3 yards per carry.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff concludes their season with a 5-5 overall mark and a 3-4 record in SWAC play.
