Lady Lions Capture First SWAC Tournament Victory Over AAMU

ITTA BENA, Miss.-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions soccer team made history on Thursday morning as they defeated Alabama A&M 7-3 capturing the programs first SWAC tournament win in school history. The victory also marks the first time the Lady Lions have beaten AAMU in regular season and post season play.
Alabama A&M got on the board first when Celeste Roberts took a pass down the middle of the field and scored. The Lady Lions returned the favor shortly after as Jade West found Noah Mithrush on the left side of the field for the tying goal.
AAMU regained the lead when Kanesha Gulley found Brittany Joseph on the right side of the field for the goal. UAPB tied the game early in the second half as Erika Forbes scored on a penalty kick. The Lady Lions subsequently added goals by Nicole Parks-Powell and Jade West to take the lead for good.
The Bulldog’s Brittany Joseph connected on a shot from 35 yards out to move AAMU slightly closer. However, two final goals by UAPB’s Taryn Wright and Rachel Harker put the game away for the Lady Lions.
