CONWAY, Ark- Both the men’s and women’s UAPB track teams competed in the Hendrix Invitational against other local universities from surrounding areas this past weekend. Both teams had favorable showings in the meets final standings.
On the women’s side Tracey Rivers recorded a first place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.30. In the 200 meter dash Betty Burna crossed the tape second with a time of 25.21. Jackline Chumo had a third place finish in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:59.62. In the 400 meter Ester Adeyemi had a first place finish with a time of 1:05.09.
The team of Tracey Rivers, Betty Burna, Sherine Shepherd, and Ester Adeyemi finished second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 49.69. In the 4x400 meter relay the team Ester Adeyemi, Marion Booth, Betty Burna, and Sherine Shepard registered a first place finish with a time of 4:01.79. In the field events Tracey Rivers tallied a second place finish with a jump of 15-02. Phalana Hemlee finished first in the discus throw with a toss of 134-10.
On the men’s half of the results in the 800 meter dash Boniface Yator and Brian Kibet finished in first and second place. Yator finished third in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:07.79. In the 110 meter hurdles Danny Evans finished second with a time 14.85 and Stephen Jones crossed the tape third with a time of 16.43.
Rounding out the days events in the 400 meter hurdles Danny Evans and Stephen Jones finished second and third with times of 57.66 and 58.57. With a time of 42.97 in the 4x100 meter race the team of Gordon Johnson, Danny Evans, Stephen Jones, and James Harrell recorded a first place finish.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Charles Williams, Danny Evans, Gordon Johnson and Stephen Jones finished second with a time of 3:24.2. In the field events Ibrahim Abdulai finished third in the shot put with a throw of 39-01.25 while fellow teammate Hicks registered a third place finish with a throw of 115-01 in the discus.
