Game One Box Score   Game Two Box Score

PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (12-10, 6-7) dominated Central Baptist from start to finish as they defeated CBC 9-1 and 6-0 at Regional Park on Thursday, March 26th. With the victory the Golden Lions have now won four out of their last five ballgames.
UAPB appears to be heating up at just the right time as the Golden Lions prepare to enter the stretch run of conference play. Matt Pace pitched game one of the doubleheader allowing just one run off of six hits.
Five of UAPB’s runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Golden Lions subsequently took a 7-1 advantage. Arkansas-Pine Bluff would go on to produce two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth innings. Lloyd Burchett once again came up big for the Golden Lions as he drove in three runs off of two hits in four at bats.
UAPB shortstop Mike Huckabee tallied two RBI’s and also crossed home plate twice as he accounted for two of the Golden Lions runs. Pace was able to pitch the entire outing as he picked up his first victory of the season.
During game two UAPB’s Sulayann Muhammad pitched a complete game and also racked up a shutout as he faced 29 batters allowing just two hits and no runs.
The majority of UAPB’s runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Golden Lions put up four runs off of good base running and solid hitting. Burchett opened the inning with a single and would eventually reach second base on a Gvona Turner ground out before reaching third base on a passed ball.
After Earnest Horton was hit by a pitch the Golden Lions Hinton Huckabbe hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring both Burchett and Huckabee respectively. Later in the inning a single by Matt Pace would cap off the scoring for the bottom half of the inning as Rashad Billingsley and Trey Austin would subsequently score bringing the score to 6-0 which would be the games final score.
“We’ve learned a lot about ourselves over the past few weeks,” said UAPB leftfielder Earnest Horton. “Our goal is to improve on a daily basis and to be consistent because in the world of baseball anybody can beat anybody on any given day.”
The Golden Lions will now get set to travel to Shreveport, La. this weekend to face Centenary in non-conference action before returning home on Wednesday, April 1st to face Central Arkansas.
