Arkansas-Pine Bluff wins three-game series on the road versus Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions baseball team swept the first day of competition against Prairie View A&M winning 2-1 and 5-2 in game one and game two respectively. 

With the two wins UAPB attained their first conference road series win of the season. The series victory over PVAMU also marks a significant milestone as it was the Golden Lions first series win over the Panthers on the road since 2003.
 
The series opening doubleheader was a defensive affair for Arkansas-Pine Bluff as pitchers Justin Moring and Kyle Jones both captured victories during their respective outings. Both pitchers severely limited the Panthers offensive production as they gave up a combined three runs.  
 
During game one Arkansas-Pine Bluff was able to pull away late as they went ahead by the score of 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning. UAPB’s Moring pitched a complete game highlighted by five consecutive scoreless innings as he was lights out against the Panthers hitting rotation.
 
In game two of the doubleheader Arkansas-Pine Bluff jumped out to a 3-1 advantage and never looked back. The Golden Lions were able to add two runs to their tally in the top of the seventh on a Sean Prater single to center field that scored Zac Varnell and McCullum. Kyle Jones limited the Panthers to one run in the bottom half of the inning sealing the game in UAPB’s favor. Jones complete game on the mound was highlighted by seven strikeouts as he faced a total of 26 PVAMU batters.  
 
The Golden Lions dropped a close 5-3 decision to Prairie View A&M in the series finale. Arkansas-Pine Bluff made a charge in the top of the fifth inning scoring two runs on a Jerome McCullum single to center field and a Lloyd Burchett sacrifice fly. The Golden Lions went the next four innings scoreless as they were unable to get anymore runs across home plate.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff currently sits in second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Western Division. The Golden Lions will now get set to return home to the friendly confines of Regional Park for another pivotal SWAC match-up against the Southern Jaguars.
 
The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18th following by one single nine inning contest on Sunday, April 19th. The first pitch has been set for 1:00 p.m. on both days.
