PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (12-14, 5-7 SWAC) dropped a close 5-2 decision to the Central Arkansas Bears on Wednesday night at Regional Park. UAPB played well defensively but struggled at the plate as the Golden Lions amassed only four hits in 32 at bats.
“We’re still striking out in key situations,” said UAPB head coach Michael Bumpers. “We didn’t execute today and I think it’s due to a lack of concentration. You’ve got to want to be a team player and you’ve got to want to put the bunt down when you need to put it down. Overall we’ve got to do a better job of concentrating and getting hits in key situations.”
UAPB will take the field this weekend for a pivotal three-game series versus SWAC West rival Texas Southern. The series could have significant implications as it pertains to tourney seedings for the 2009 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th and Sunday, April 5th.
