BATON ROUGE, La.-Alcorn State defeated the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-1 in an elimination game of the 2009 SWAC Baseball Tournament.
Trailing 1-0, the Braves scored in the sixth inning on a two-run single to center field, scoring two ASU base runners before adding an additional run later in the ball game.
Gvona Turner and Zac Varnell each had two hits for UAPB (21-25), which scored in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Earnest Horton.
Daniel Gathright was charged the loss as the Golden Lions concluded what was a memorable season. Arkansas Pine-Bluff set several school records en route to securing the programs first winning season in conference play.
