DES MOINES, Iowa-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s newly signed track recruit Charles Johnson from St. Louis Hazelwood East High School defended his 2008 crown by winning the 2009 AAU National Track and Field Championships 3000 meter race, in a time of 8:56.38.
“Charles has a great work ethic and commitment to improving himself on a daily basis,” said UAPB Head Track and Field Coach Curtis Pittman. “We feel like he will be the equalizer when we face some of the conferences’ premier middle distance runners. He definitely showed his heart and determination at the AAU National Track and Field Championships.”
Earlier in the days events Johnson came in 2nd in the 2000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 6:08.58. Johnson also took 4th place in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:04.81.
