Arkansas-Pine Bluff Competes Well At Delta State Invitational

CLEVELAND, Miss.- Three of the top five female and male runners at the Delta State Cross Country Invitational hailed from the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Women’s and Men's Cross Country Teams' dominated the top tier of meet’s finishers. 
 
UAPB’s Karla Atencio, Monica Carillo, and Ninfa Barnard finished in first, second, and third place respectively. Atencio led all runners finishing with a time of 18:56.82.
 
“I was extremely impressed with the way our runners competed at the Delta State Invitational,” said UAPB Head Cross Country Coach Curtis Pittman. "Our runners have quickly gotten acclimated to what it takes to win. We’re expecting even greater accomplishments from them in the weeks to come.”
 
On the men’s side Arkansas-Pine Bluff claimed first, second, and fourth place finishes as John Bwete led all runners with a time of 18:57:47. Fellow teammates Charles Johnson, and Moses Alukuyang concluded the meet with times of 19:15:51 and 19:31:97 respectively
 
“Charles has exceeded our expectations,” stated Pittman. “He is a tremendous competitor and he works to get better everyday in practice. He has an very bright future ahead of himself if he continues to push his self and work hard.”
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff Cross Country teams will have this upcoming weekend off before competing next weekend at the Mississippi Invitational held in Hattiesburg.
