Bookmark and Share
HOUSTON, Texas- Laquisha Slaton’s 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the floor was nearly enough for the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions to pull out an upset of major significance on the road against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers.
PVAMU currently sits in sole possession of first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference undefeated at 6-0. Threw their first five games of the season the Lady Panthers had blown out all of the conference foes by double-digit margins.
UAPB pushed Prairie View to the limit as they went into halftime down by only one point at 43-42. Slaton was unstoppable throughout the highly contested affair as she slashed her way to a season high in scoring. Jasmine Abrams and Tashayla Jackson added 14 and 12 points respectively as they round out the list of Lady Lion double-digit scorers.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff was able to cut Prairie View’s lead to five points at 83-78 with under a minute left in regulation after a successful Slaton lay-up. PVAMU upped their lead back to seven points on two Candice Thomas free-throws to hold onto the victory in the closing seconds.
The Lady Lions (2-5 SWAC) closed out their Texas road swing with a loss to Texas Southern 90-82 in overtime.

"We've continued to show overall improvement during the season," said UAPB Head Coach Cary Shelton. "Our main need for improvement now is on defense."
