Arkansas-Pine Bluff Loses A Heartbreaker To Grambling State
Bookmark and Share
PINE BLUFF, Ark.- A lay-up in the closing seconds as time expired sealed the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions fate on Saturday evening. After leading for the majority of the game UAPB committed a costly turnover which led to a Rachelle Dobbins lay-up that put GSU up by two points at 61-59 with only one second remaining on the game clock.
“We’ve got to learn how to close out ball games,” said UAPB Head Women’s Basketball Coach Cary Shelton. “If we want to take steps towards reaching the next level our team as a whole is going to have to play with more intensity and take better care of the ball.”
UAPB outrebounded Grambling State 38-25 but also committed 25 turnovers while only forcing GSU to commit 17 turnovers. Arkansas-Pine Bluff also struggled at times during the contests from long range as they converted 6-of-20 three point attempts.
Jasmine Abrams and Shay Holmes tallied 12 and 11 points respectively leading Arkansas-Pine Bluff in point production. The Lady Lions return home on Monday, Feb. 1st for the second game of a four game home stand. UAPB will play Jackson State at 5:30 pm at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
