UAPB Has Strong Showing On Day One Of SWAC Championships

BATON ROUGE, LA – The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams currently sit in 3rd and 4th place respectively at the 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
In men’s competition, Alabama State won a pair of running events to claim first place with 37.5 points. Jackson State is in second with 28 points, just ahead of Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s third-place total of 27 points.
Several SWAC records were set Saturday. In the men’s shot put, UAPB’s Terron Armstead won with a Conference-record throw of 16.00 meters (52ft, 6.0 in). The true freshman dominated the field on Saturday easily winning the event with long consistent throws throughout competition.
On the women’s side Tracey Rivers has qualified to participate in the 60m finals on Sunday. As a team the Lady Lions have tallied 22 points as they currently trail Alabama State (75), Grambling State (27) and Prairie View (24).
Field events will begin Sunday at 8 a.m. with the finals in all running events taking place at 1 p.m.
