Men's Track And Field Finishes In Second Place At SWAC Championships

NEW ORLEANS, La. -
Arkansas-Pine Bluff dominated the performances in the field events to claim a second place finish at the 2010 SWAC Outdoor Championships. Grambling finished first with 135.5 points, while UAPB tallied 120 total points. Jackson State and Alabama State tied for third place with 111 team points.
The top four were followed by Prairie View (97.5), Mississippi Valley State (61), Texas Southern (57), Southern (47.5), Alabama A&M (41.5), and Alcorn State (31).
Individually, Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Arthur Thomas earned outstanding performer in the field events for the second consecutive year accounting for 21 points for the Golden Lions, which was a single point ahead of his fellow teammate, Terron Armstead. Thomas finished second in both the discus and hammer, and was fourth in the shot put.
In women’s action Alabama State finished first with 214 points. Prairie View broke a three-way tie for runner-up with its victory in the final event to post 126 team points. Jackson State was third overall with 124, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished in fourth place with 122 points. 

Grambling (85.5), Texas Southern (34.5), Mississippi Valley State (32), Southern (25), Alabama A&M (22), and Alcorn State (21) rounded out the team standings.
