Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions traveled to Baton Rouge for Southwestern Athletic Conference play on the SWAC Digital Network and fell 59-46 to Southern University at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. A total of 30 turnovers haunted the Lady Lions as Southern scored 31 points off those turnovers. UAPB failed to score a 3-pointer all night and shot just 32 percent from the field.
UAPB (5-17, 3-9 SWAC) was led by
Faith Ohanta who finished with a double-double and scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds but had a game-high six turnovers in the loss. Ohanta was physical all night and shot a total of 22 free throws, making 13.
The Lady Lions got off to a slow start and scored just six points in the opening quarter but made a 17-9 run in the final quarter before falling. However, the Lady Lions won the rebound battle 43-39 and held its opponent to 36 percent shooting from the field.
The Jaguars hit a total of eight three-pointers in the game and was led by freshman Alyric Scott who finished with 16 points and five rebounds in the win.
Sophomore
Katherine Darden chipped in with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. She also produced six boards, two blocks and one steal.
UAPB returns to action on Monday, February 12 as it travels to Mississippi to face Alcorn State in SWAC play. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. On January 15, Alcorn State won the first meeting between these two teams 80-77 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
